The Ralphs chain of supermarkets has long been cherished by Angelenos. Ralphs is one of the oldest chain of grocery stores in the west, having been established in 1873, and introduced the concept of allowing customers to walk freely to choose their own purchases. So ubiquitous were their locations that one was featured in The Big Lebowski.
The chain has taken a backseat to innovating since the 1990s, when it became a part of the Kroger family of supermarkets. This was to the shoppers' advantage – as one can now find hundreds of Kroger own-brand products on Ralphs' shelves. Those include Simple Truth organics, which are free of antibiotics and artificial ingredients; creatively flavored BigK sodas; ready-to-eat Fresh Selections salads; and delicious Private Selections deli meats. Most Ralphs branches also feature in-house pharmacies where you can buy a month's worth of generics for $3 – including pet medications. Kroger gift cards are accepted at all Ralphs locations.
