Released in 2002, Steam was originally a patch system for Valve games which included Half-Life and Counter-Strike. It took only 2 years for Steam to become the familiar platform for purchasing and downloading content, with the release of Half-Life2; by 2007, there were 149 more for sale through Steam. That same year, the first Steam Community profiles appeared, and gamers could chat with each other in-game on the overlay.
